The MOB - Club Rules

    MOB RULES

These contest rules are to ensure that club competitions run smoothly and the workload is shared between all surfers. Please see judging section for information on judging.

    Club Registration

All surfers must be financial members. No exceptions. Membership forms must be filled out clearly and signed by the surfer or guardian of the surfer if under 18. This is for our records as well as insurance purposes. Make sure your email is filled out clearly and correctly if you wish to receive any club information.

    Contest Registration

At each club competition, any surfer wishing to compete must have their name down in their correct age group by 7:30am. This is the only way you are guaranteed of a spot in the heat draw. If you come after 7:30am then you will only be given a spot in the draw if there is a place and it does not affect the times and running order of the days competition. If you are going to be late you can get another member to put your name down for you but it must be down by 7:30am. It your responsibility to enter don’t assume we know you are there.

    Heat Times & wave count

Heat times will be decided by the head co-ordinator or other committee members on the day once the draw is completed. Heats are for 20 minutes whenever possible. However if there is only 1 decent surf bank on the beach and we have a full day’s competition, heats may be 15 minutes. We try to double bank when we can.

During any heat a surfers top two waves count toward their total.

    Judging

This is the most important rule in the club. Once you surf your heat, you have 20 minutes whilst the next heat is surfing before you have to judge. This means if you surf in Heat 1 of the Opens you have the 20 mins of heat 2 to get changed, grab a drink etc, then you will judge heat 3 on the same bank that you surfed. If you fail to judge after you have surfed then you will not be allowed to progress to the next round, or if you were eliminated you will lose your points or maybe be banned from the next contest. Make sure you are standing where the judges chairs are before the previous heat finishes.

This is the main ingredient to a successful club competition. If everyone judges then the contests run smoothly and others don’t have to pick up the slack. Remember no one is getting paid here. If you can’t fullfill this requirement please don’t join the MOB.

    North & South Bank

Due to the MOB’s large number of surfers we usually require to run two different banks to complete the days surfing in a reasonable time frame. The head co-ordinator will write north or south above your heat on the draw. You must surf on the bank allocated to your heat. Once you have surfed you must also judge on the same bank as the one you surfed on.

    Head Co-Ordinator’s decision is final

All decisions of the head co-ordinator are final. We do our best to accommodate people and listen to opinions and questions but in the end what the boss says goes.

    1 Division per surfer

Surfers may enter only one division unless permission is granted by the head co-ordinator. This may include allowing a young up and coming surfer to go in the opens if there is a spot to gain experience. If permission is granted, the second division must be the open men’s division.

    Club Pointscore

Each contest provides surfers with points which count towards an accumulative pointscore which decides the division champions at the completion of the year. For all open and senior divisions your best 3 results out of the 4 contests will count toward your end total and position. Junior surfers will count their best 4 out of 5 contests due to the inclusion of the Grom comp for the junior surfers only.

    Setting up & packing up

It is the responsibility of all the surfers to help set up and pack up the clubs gear. If everyone grabs something to carry it’s so easy. Remember no one is getting paid we do it because we love the club. Your help is greatly appreciated.

    Tents

All tents must be pegged down to prevent damage to equipment and for the safety of spectators and surfers. Please see Pete Moroney if you cannot locate the sand pegs.

    MOB equipment

It is the responsibility of all our members to look after the equipment we own. The gear belongs to us all. If you see someone doing something that could damage our equipment please ask them to stop.
